GA, RA, International Student Information

To enroll or waive the United HealthCare Student insurance, please visit www.studentcenter.uhcsr.com

Domestic Students: If you are currently covered by a comparable insurance plan, you do have the option to complete a Waiver Form to request a review of your existing coverage. If we determine that your coverage meets our minimum coverage standards, you will not be required to enroll in the University of Southern Mississippi’s student insurance plan. Once enrolled in the plan, you will automatically be enrolled for the full plan year.  The only exception to this policy is if you graduate in December or are terminated from your employment that offers this plan.

International Students: Beginning this Fall 2017 semester, we are requiring all our international students to purchase the USM Student Health Insurance policy.  All international students, including Graduate Assistants (GA) and Residence Assistants (RA), are required to purchase and enroll in the USM ‘s student health insurance plan.

The only international students who will be eligible for an insurance waiver are those who are currently on a government-sponsored program that provides health insurance to their participants.  If you are eligible to apply for a waiver, then please send an email to  Gina.Barker@usm.edu, and she will give you further instructions for a waiver.  The deadline to submit a waiver is September 15, 2017, or you will automatically be charged for the USM student health insurance. Your student account will be charged at the beginning of the fall semester for $1,020.00, and at the beginning of the spring semester for $1,020.00. This excludes International Graduate Assistants, their premium is payroll deducted on a monthly basis from September to May.

**For all students, we will accept your enrollment or waiver request from August 1, 2017 to September 15, 2017. If you do not enroll or waive by 9/15/2017 you will be required to purchase University of Southern Mississippi’s student insurance coverage. Once you enroll in the health insurance plan, you will have coverage from 08/14/2017 – 08/13/2018. After enrollment has been completed, or you have been automatically enrolled, no refunds will be given.
