Mrs. Valerie Simmons



Mrs. Valerie Simmons has been a member of the USM College of Business faculty since 2006. Before entering academia, Simmons worked as a Certified Public Accountant and as the Controller for a private company. Mrs. Simmons teaches Managerial Accounting and currently serves as the School of Accountancy Internship Coordinator. She has served on numerous committees including the university-wide Retention Steering Committee and Academic Technology Committee. Mrs. Simmons was chosen for the top teaching award in the College of Business in 2018, the Joseph A. Greene Excellence in Teaching Award. Additionally, she was selected for the Business Advisory Council Teaching Award for 2010 – 2011 and the Business Advisory Council Service Award for 2013 - 2014. Mrs. Simmons received her Master of Public Accountancy and BSBA in Accounting from the University of Southern Mississippi, graduating with honors. She is currently pursuing her PhD in Accounting at Kennesaw State University.
