Bio
Dr. Valerie Simmons has been a member of the USM College of Business faculty since 2006. Before entering academia, Simmons worked as a Certified Public Accountant and as the Controller for a private company. Dr. Simmons currently teaches Introduction to Managerial Accounting and Cost Accounting. She was chosen for the top teaching award in the College of Business in 2018, the Joseph A. Greene Excellence in Teaching Award. Additionally, she received the Beta Alpha Psi Service Award in 2019, was selected for the Business Advisory Council Teaching Award for 2010 – 2011, and also the Business Advisory Council Service Award for 2013 - 2014. Dr. Simmons graduated with a Ph.D. in Business Administration (Accounting concentration) from Kennesaw State University in 2022 where she was named the 2022 Outstanding Ph.D. Student. Dr. Simmons received her Master of Public Accountancy and BSBA in Accounting from the University of Southern Mississippi, graduating with honors.
