Bio

Billy Newman now holds Emeritus status on the University faculty. He taught in the Legal Studies and Political Science programs for 29 years, from 1993 to 2022. Billy is a former Coordinator of the Legal Studies Program, and he guided the Paralegal major to its latest re-approval by the American Bar Association in 2022.

An attorney for 33 years, his law practice experience includes work in commercial litigation (federal and state courts), First Amendment law, business acquisitions, and Wills/estates. His primary area of practice over the years has been in intellectual property law.

A proud alumnus of USM, as a student Billy was inducted into The University of Southern Mississippi Hall of Fame.
