Dr. Galit Kaunitz

Assistant Professor


Galit Kaunitz is the Assistant Professor of Oboe at the University of Southern Mississippi, where she performs with Magnolia Reed Trio and Category 5 Wind Quintet, and plays second oboe and English horn with the Baton Rouge, Meridian, and Gulf Coast Symphony Orchestras. Her creative interests center around community and identity. At USM she teaches talented young oboists, coaches chamber music, and teaches a Writing About Music class that helps graduate students hone real-world skills. She explores her multi-cultural heritage through thematic recital programming, organizes concerts to collect food for the Eagle’s Nest, USM’s own food pantry, and performs throughout the United States. Along with bassoonist Jacqueline Wilson, Galit co-hosts the podcast Double Reed Dish, which promotes a positive and inclusive culture within the double reed community. She is also an active chamber musician who has been invited to perform at recent International Double Reed Society and College Music Soci
