Dr. Fan Zhang

Assistant Professor


Dr. Zhang joined University of Southern Mississippi as an assistant professor at the School of Construction and Design in 2016. She was born and raised in Shenyang, China. After she got a Bachelor of Engineering degree in Environmental Engineering from University of Shanghai for Science and Technology in Shanghai, China, she traveled to the US for graduate education. She got a Master of Science degree in Civil Engineering from University of Kansas, and a Ph.D. in Civil Engineering from Oregon State University.
During her stay in the US, Dr. Zhang has developed the enthusiasm in teaching and research. She has taught a number of classes, including Research Method in Construction, Soils and Foundations, Estimating, Planning and Scheduling. Her scholarly efforts are mainly in the areas of highway work zone safety, sustainable construction, and the pedagogy of construction. She loves outdoor activities and she is a certified climb-wall instructor and outdoor trip leader.
