USM Office of Research Integrity Co-Hosting Feb. 19 Conference with UMMC

A discussion of research integrity issues raised during the Covid-19 Pandemic will be the focus of a Feb. 19 virtual conference to be co-hosted by The University of Southern Mississippi (USM) Office of Research Integrity and the University of Mississippi Medical Center (UMMC) Division of Continuing Health Professional Education.

“Research Integrity Southeast ’21: in the Wake of a Global Pandemic” will be held from 8:45 a.m. – 4:15 p.m. and presented virtually via BigBlueButton. Allied health care professionals, dentists, physicians, physician assistants, nurses, nurse practitioners and health care profession students are invited to attend.

The goals of the conference are provision of a venue for interprofessional education and dialogue, facilitation of networking and sharing of practical guidance, increasing integrity-related preparedness, and encouraging collaborative use of resources. After participating in the event, attendees will be able to discuss issues of research integrity raised or modified during the COVID-19 pandemic.

  • Administrative Perspectives
  • Moderna’s COVID Vaccine
  • NIH award to study COVID-19, community engagement
  • Essential vs. Non-Essential Research in a Pandemic: Findings from an NSF Rapid Research Project
  • Pediatric Clinical Research Challenges: Response to COVID-19 and Directions for Future Research
  • Publishing in a Pandemic: COVID-19’s Effect on Preprints and Open Science

Among the presenters for the conference will be USM Vice President for Research Dr. Gordon Cannon. USM faculty members assisting with organizing the conference are Dr. Sam Bruton, director, Office of Research Integrity; Andrea Blake, a Ph.D. candidate in the USM School of Education; and Gina Fiorentini-Wright, lecturer in the USM College of Nursing and Health Professions.
