The Southern Miss College of Nursing and Health Professions (CNHP) recently honored its newest nursing graduates with pinning ceremonies on both the Hattiesburg and Gulf Park campuses. Students who completed the Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BSN) program were recognized as they prepare to enter a growing health care workforce in critical need of qualified nurses.

Dr. Charleen McNeill, CNHP dean, praised the cohorts for their commitment to the profession and readiness to serve communities across the state and beyond.

“We couldn’t be prouder of this group as they reach a milestone many have worked toward for years—the moment they step into their calling as nurses,” McNeill said. “They’ve shown exceptional capability and commitment, proving they’re ready to serve individuals and communities across Mississippi and wherever their paths lead. This class is sure to strengthen and expand the tradition of excellence that has distinguished this program from the very start.”

The CNHP BSN program continues to address the region’s need for more trained professionals. The traditional BSN concentration allows students to complete prerequisite courses during their first two years before, upon acceptance, completing the final two years of study focused on nursing. The accelerated BSN concentration offers intensive hands-on clinical experience and simulation-based training, enabling eligible students to complete their degree in just 12 months. The fully online RN-BSN concentration allows working nurses to earn their BSN in two semesters while gaining advanced knowledge in health-care systems, health assessment, surgical nursing and more.

Dr. Maria Brown, director of the School of Professional Nursing Practice, commended the graduates for their resilience and dedication throughout their coursework and clinical preparation.

“Our graduates have shown that they can do hard things and accomplish hard things, but at the same time provide the caring word or presence that someone at their most vulnerable needs. I am proud of every one of them, and I know that they will make this world a better place,” said Brown.
