Southern Miss Graduate Training and Education Center Now Accepting Applications for 2026 GTEC Scholars Program

The University of Southern Mississippi Graduate Training and Education Center (GTEC) is now accepting applications for the 2026 GTEC Scholars Program, a competitive, two-year program designed to prepare graduate students for impactful careers in cardiovascular disease research.
The GTEC Scholars Program aims to strengthen the research pipeline by equipping graduate students with advanced skills, professional development opportunities and meaningful community engagement experiences. The program focuses on building research knowledge, enhancing research capacity, fostering professional growth and promoting community-centered approaches to cardiovascular health.
Eligible applicants must be accepted into a biomedical or health-related graduate program, be enrolled full time by fall 2026, demonstrate an interest in cardiovascular disease research, commit to all program requirements and be a U.S. citizen.
“This program represents a significant investment in the next generation of researchers dedicated to addressing cardiovascular disease and advancing health outcomes,” said Dr. Jennifer Lemacks, associate dean for research and innovation in the College of Nursing and Health Professions and co-principal investigator of the project.
