Later-stage startups developing technologies for complex coastal environments encouraged
to apply by October 30.
Gulf Blue® Navigator, a business accelerator supporting the growth and commercialization of innovative
blue technology companies, has opened applications for its fifth cohort, launching
in 2027.
Sponsored in part by the U.S. Army Engineer Research and Development Center (ERDC),
Cohort 5 will focus on later-stage, scaling startups developing technologies relevant
to operations in and through the near-shore littoral zone, where rapidly changing
conditions create significant challenges for maritime operations.
Is your technology built to operate in the surf zone?
Gulf Blue Navigator is seeking companies developing technologies that can perform
in complex environments characterized by breaking waves, shallow water, extreme turbidity,
dynamic bathymetry, acoustic and optical noise, dense vegetation, obstacles, and degraded
or limited communications.
Technologies of particular interest include:
- Uncrewed surface and subsurface vessels
- Autonomous launch and recovery systems
- Advanced sensors and sensing platforms
- Navigation and obstacle avoidance
- Alternative positioning, navigation and timing technologies
- Edge processing and data analytics
- Seafloor mapping, bathymetry and hazard detection
- Pier and port inspection technologies
- Technologies designed to operate in degraded, denied, intermittent or limited environments
- Other innovative technologies applicable to complex coastal and littoral operations
“Cohort 5 gives us an opportunity to connect innovative companies with real-world
challenges that exist in one of the most difficult operating environments — the transition
between water and land,” said Natalie Guess, assistant director of innovation and
impact at The University of Southern Mississippi.
“The Mississippi Gulf Coast provides an incredible environment for companies to demonstrate
their technologies, connect with technical experts and potential customers, and identify
pathways to move promising innovations toward greater adoption and scale.”
Accelerating Blue Technology on the Gulf Coast
Gulf Blue Navigator is a later-stage business accelerator that connects participating
companies with the resources, facilities, expertise and relationships available through
The University of Southern Mississippi, industry, federal partners and the broader
Gulf Coast innovation ecosystem.
The program is designed to help companies accelerate market growth through access
to research and testing capabilities, technical expertise, strategic introductions
and opportunities to engage with potential customers and partners.
Since its launch, Gulf Blue Navigator has supported companies developing technologies
across the blue economy and helped participating businesses establish new partnerships,
secure contracts, test technologies and expand their presence in Mississippi and beyond.
Applications for Gulf Blue Navigator Cohort 5 are open through October 30. Apply for Cohort 5.
