Ingalls Shipbuilding is the largest private employer in the state of Mississippi and as such has a large impact on the entire state. To clearly identify the impact Ingalls has on the state, Ingalls’ Shipbuilding Office of Communications & Public Affairs commissioned The University of Southern Mississippi Trent Lott National Center for Excellence in Economic Development and Entrepreneurship to conduct an economic impact study pertaining to the shipyard’s overall economic impact on Mississippi and the Gulf Region. Ingalls is a division of Huntington Ingalls Industries. The report was separated into two scenarios with Scenario 1 focused on capturing the effect that Ingalls has on Mississippi and Scenario 2 adding the surrounding region of Louisiana, Alabama, and Florida.
