Freshman Designation-Based Scholarships

Deadlines

August 1: Submit designation-based applications through the GO System.

August 10: Students will receive notification of their Freshman Designation-Based status/offer.

August 15: Students must accept Freshman Designation-Based Scholarships in the GO System.


$2,000 Annual Scholarships (Each) for 4 Years

These awards are designated for high school seniors who achieve these academic and community achievements prior to attending the University; therefore official documentation of status from high school counselor and/or authorized state organization is required to be attached to the online application in the GO System. 

Each award is to be paid out across 8 consecutive fall/spring semesters at $2,000 annually/$1,000 per semester for a total of $8,000. 

These scholarships can stack with each other and other freshman scholarship offers.

Scholarship automatically renews if the student maintains a 2.5 USM cumulative GPA and 15 USM credit hours each fall and spring semester. Failure to meet these stipulations results in immediate cancellation of the scholarship.

  • Distinguished Young Women: State (Mississippi Residents Only) 

$3,000 Annual Scholarships (Each) for 4 Years

These awards are designated for high school seniors who achieve these collegiate academic achievements while dual enrolled in high school and prior to attending the University. This awards can stack with other freshman scholarship offers. Students may receive one or both of these offers, if eligible.

Each award is to be paid out across 8 consecutive fall/spring semesters at $3,000 annually/$1,500 per semester for a total of $12,000. 

Scholarship automatically renews if the student maintains a 2.5 USM cumulative GPA and 15 USM credit hours each fall and spring semester. Failure to meet these stipulations results in immediate cancellation of the scholarship. 

Incoming Freshman Phi Theta Kappa Scholarship
  • Student Must Apply in the GO System and upload proof of PTK Membership (visit PTK.org to log into your account).
  • Current Phi Theta Kappa Membership with a transfer cumulative GPA of 3.5 or higher
Incoming Freshman Associate Achievement Scholarship
  • Automatic consideration based on final college transcript submitted to the Office of Admissions prior to the published deadline.
  • Earned associate‚Äôs degree with a transfer cumulative GPA of 3.0 or higher
