Data from American College Health Association

The ACHA-National College Health Assessment (ACHA-NCHA) is a national research survey organized by the American College Health Association (ACHA) to assist college health service providers, health educators, counselors, and administrators in collecting data about their students' habits and behaviors on the most prevalent health topics. The ACHA-NCHA now provides the largest known comprehensive data set on the health of college students,
providing the college health and higher education fields with a vast spectrum of information on student health.

Healthy Campus: Core Elements

  • Every campus can be a healthy campus.
  • Institutions of higher education are communities.
  • Healthy Campus is a continuum and every campus can find their place.
  • Healthy Campus efforts should be informed by data: see ACHA's Connected College Health Network and Survey Data.
  • Healthy Campus efforts should engage campus community members with expertise in college health and well-being.
  • If college health and wellness expertise isn’t available on your campus, ACHA can help: College Health  Wellness Consulting.

If your school offers a student health plan, it can be an easy and affordable way to get basic insurance coverage.

If you're enrolled in a student health plan, in most cases it counts as qualifying health coverage. This means you're considered covered under the health care law and won't have to pay the penalty for not having insurance. Be sure to check with the plan to be sure.

If you or your family need additional health care benefits, please view this resources.

If you have a concern about a current USM student (undergraduate or graduate) and feel the individual may need some help, you can file a CARES report. When you file a report, someone from our professional CARES team will reach out to the student to make sure they are okay and, if necessary, help connect them with resources.
