Transfer admission-based scholarships are awarded to newly admitted transfer students
during the fall and spring semesters only. These scholarships do not have to be renewed
each year and are based on eligibility at the time of University admission. Scholarship
stipulations are provided for each scholarship and are required in order to maintain
these scholarships each semester.
Students who are classified as transfer students do not qualify for freshman scholarships.
Transfer scholarships cannot be stacked with freshman scholarships. Community College
Transfer Awards cannot be stacked with University Transfer Awards.
Initial offers may change as updated transcripts are submitted to the Office of Admissions.
All other scholarships available through the GO System or external awards vary in
eligibility, deadlines, and stipulations.
Spring Academic Award Deadlines
January 15: Students transferring to The University of Southern Mississippi for the spring semester
must be admitted by this date to be considered for Transfer Academic and Designation-Based
Scholarships. Please, be mindful of when your final grades will post for your fall semester.
Due to colleges and universities closing for winter breaks, final fall semester transcripts
should be requested by or turned in during December for final scholarship consideration.
It is the student's responsibility to coordinate between schools to ensure timely receival of final fall transcripts.
Students must accept Transfer Academic and/or Transfer Designation-Based Scholarships
in the proper system (SOAR or GO System) by the stated deadlines.
Fall Academic Award Deadlines
August 1: Students transferring to The University of Southern Mississippi for the fall semester
must be admitted by and have final spring transcripts submitted to the Office of Admissions
by this date to be considered for Transfer Academic and Transfer Designation-Based
Scholarships.
It is the student's responsibility to coordinate between schools to ensure timely receival of final spring/summer transcripts.
Be mindful that most summer transcripts are not finalized in time to be submitted
and processed by the scholarship deadline.
Students must accept Transfer Academic and/or Transfer Designation-Based Scholarships
in the proper system (SOAR or GO System) by the stated deadlines.

Office of Admissions by the scholarship deadline. All supporting documentation for
Designation-Based Scholarships and University Transfer Academic Scholarships must
be submitted in the GO System by the scholarship deadline.]
Students must be newly admitted, without conditions or previous course history at
Southern Miss, and meet the requirements on or before the stated scholarship deadlines
to receive guaranteed scholarship consideration. Any requested supporting documentation
is also due by the stated deadlines. This includes final transcripts from all institutions.
Transfer scholarships are awarded to students during the fall and spring semesters
only (i.e., scholarships are not awarded during summer semesters or mini-sessions.)
Fall Scholarship Consideration: Transfer scholarships are available to students attending Southern Miss for the upcoming
fall semester and admitted by August 1.
Spring Scholarship Consideration: Transfer scholarships are available to students attending Southern Miss the upcoming
spring semester and must be admitted by January 15
The Phi Theta Kappa Scholarship, Phi Theta Kappa: Officer Scholarship, Community College
Phi Theta Kappa All-Academic First State/National Team Scholarship, and Transfer Eagle
Scout/Gold Award Scholarship are available only to qualified students whose most recent
institution of attendance is a community/junior college. Students must complete an
online scholarship application via the GO System and submit documentation by the stated deadline.
Students that have already completed a bachelor's degree are ineligible for Transfer Scholarships. Students that have already completed an associate’s degree
are not eligible for Transfer Scholarships if they have completed more than 119 hours.
Cumulative transfer GPA is calculated from grades earned at all institutions and is
the GPA of record for scholarship consideration.
Students with 120 or more earned semester hours are ineligible for any transfer scholarship
consideration. 120 hours is the equivalent of a bachelor's degree at Southern Miss.
