ARTISAN

Your Research. Your Ideas. Your Impact.

The ARTISAN Student Club is where entrepreneurship, innovation, and translational research collide. Whether you’re curious about turning your research into a product, launching an idea into the world, or collaborating with creative peers, ARTISAN is your community.

What Is Translational Research?

At Southern Miss, translational research means taking what we learn in classrooms and labs—and turning it into solutions the world can use. It’s about moving beyond papers and prototypes into products, services, policies, and innovations that improve lives.

This approach aligns with the National Science Foundation’s Technology, Innovation and Partnerships (TIP) Directorate, which supports programs that accelerate research translation, strengthen U.S. competitiveness, and create societal benefit.

Laying the Foundation for a Culture of Innovation

ARTISAN is new (2025), but momentum is already building: students from across disciplines are exploring how their research and ideas can translate into real-world impact. By supporting this effort, the NSF’s TIP Directorate, USM's Office of Innovation Management, and other partners are helping Southern Miss students create new pathways for innovation, entrepreneurship, and societal benefit.
