This event gives students in the LGBTQIA+ community the opportunity to attend prom without the restrictions. This formal event mimics high school prom in that it includes a “pride walk”, dinner, a DJ and photobooth. This event is open to LGBTQIA+ population and their allies. National Coming out Day is held nationally on October 11th. PRISM celebrates and encourages everyone to be their authentic selves. The day of celebration is an outlet for students to connect with each other and feel a sense of peer and institutional support.  Spill the Tea! is a dialogue series allowing allows students to discuss diverse topics related to the LGBTQIA+ population. Discussions have included topics like intersectionality, mental health resources, and campus advocacy. PRIDE Day at Spirit Park is a fun, social event celebrating all things LGBTQIA+. Past events have featured drag shows, games, parades, a DJ and food. The goal is to provide an on-campus PRIDE experience for students to attend and showcase their authentic selves in a safe environment.

TSC: The Spectrum Center

Spectrum Center

The Southern Miss PRISM LGBTQIA+ Resource Center supports and frequently partners with The Spectrum Center in Hattiesburg, MS. The Spectrum Center fosters a supportive, educated, and active community that is open, safe, and inclusive to people of all sexualities and gender identities. The Center is a resource and advocate for full inclusion and empowerment of those affected by prejudice and discrimination. We defend and demand human and civil rights secured by law for members of the LGBTQIA+ community and work toward an open and accepting MS that reflects the rich diversity of our state.
