Mississippi Center for Apprenticeships and Residency in Education
UNDERGRADUATE RESIDENCY
Page Content
Since fall 2019, six cohorts of undergraduate students have served as teacher residents while completing their bachelor’s degrees at Southern Miss. Compared to a traditional 14-week student teaching experience that covers only a portion of the ongoings in a school, teacher residents experience a full school year in an elementary or secondary classroom. Teacher residents are mentored by professional teachers during the process and many graduate college with job offers already secured in the districts where they served.
Golden Eagle Teacher Residents have the opportunity to serve their communities by providing academic support to K-12 students while growing their skills as an educator. Residents serve as three-quarter time AmeriCorps members, earning 1,200 service hours over the course of the academic year.
