Osher Lifelong Learning Institute
Osher Lifelong Learning Institute
Members of the Osher Lifelong Learning Institute at The University of Southern Mississippi (OLLI) are active adults who share a love of learning. Members enjoy innovative and enriching programs in an inclusive environment with others who share their interests. Many members are retired, but it is not a requirement to join, nor do you need to be a graduate or otherwise affiliated with Southern Miss. OLLI is for all people of all educational backgrounds and our members come from a wide range of backgrounds, vocations, and connections to local community.
Organization
OLLI is one of 125 such institutes across the country and is the only lifelong learning institute supported by The Bernard Osher Foundation in Mississippi. We are member-led and member-driven. Our advisory board and standing committees enable members to participate fully in the organization and provide direction to the institute.
We know there is much fun to be had in the classroom, but we also know that it's important to have fun and socialize with one another beyond the classroom. Our social committee hosts several social events each year that build camaraderie and community among our members. Some social events are as follows:
Fall and Spring Socials
OLLI Art Receptions
Veterans Day Celebration
OLLI Holiday Socials
Interested in getting involved in OLLI beyond the classes? Consider joining a SIG! Special Interest Groups are a chance for members to focus on one particular area of interest beyond what we’re able to offer in our classes. They are completely member-driven and some meet on campus while others meet around town.
If you’d like to register for a SIG, let us know by calling the office at 601.266.6554 or 228.214.3277.
