We are hosting two virtual panels in February:

Strategies for Success in Graduate School

This program will cover the benefits of pursuing a graduate degree, preparation for a graduate school application, and the realities of graduate school. The format will be a panel discussion led by successful faculty who can discuss their personal experience in graduate school and offer any tips/advice for students considering pursuing a graduate degree.

The Graduate School Journey: The Students' Perspective

This program will cover the graduate school experience from the graduate student’s perspective. The format will be a panel discussion led by current graduate students who can discuss their journey thus far and offer suggestions for success and for avoiding common pitfalls.

This session will specifically address complications in academia and overcoming adversity from a first-gen perspective.

A Mississippi Conversation with Jesmyn Ward (Salvage the Bones; Sing, Unburied, Sing) and Kiese Laymon (Heavy, How to Slowly Kill Yourself and Others).

This session is a part of the Honors College's University Forum Speaker Series and will be a conversation about Mississippi, race and gender with two of MIssissippi's most well-known and respected authors. This event is co-sponsored by the McNair Scholars Program with generous support from the Graduate School and the College of Arts and Sciences.
