Assistant Professor

Bio

Dr. Marques obtained his Ph.D. in microbiology and immunology from the University of Sao Paulo, Brazil, in 2007, and his post-doctoral degree at the University of Texas (2007-2013). His previous positions include serving as Assistant Professor at the Federal University of Minas Gerais, Brazil, (2013-2022), Visiting Professor at Georgia Institute of Technology in 2017 and Principal Research Scientist at Georgia Tech (2018-2023).

The Marques Laboratory performs research on the biology of several endo- and ectoparasites. The lab is focused on developing a vaccine against protozoa parasites and tick diseases. They explore carbohydrates (αGal) and peptides from the pathogen surface to display on Virus-like particles for vaccine development. The Marques Lab is also focused on developing a red meat allergy and anti-tick vaccine. Bioinformatics, immunology, biochemistry and molecular biology are used to explore new vaccine targets.
