The Alumni Band will perform for the first time in more than 10 years during Homecoming weekend Oct. 8-9 on the campus of the University of Southern Mississippi.

Under the direction of Dr. Steven Moser, the Alumni Band will join The Pride of Mississippi Marching Band and Dixie Darlings in their halftime performance of the Southern Miss-East Carolina game, playing traditional tunes such as Southern Swings, Are You From Dixie and Southern Miss To The Top.

“Over 50 School of Music band alumni will reunite in this performance,” said Moser, associate dean of the College of Arts and Letters and director of the Pride from 1990-2002. “This is a wonderful opportunity for alumni to renew old friendships and perform together in the spirit of the Southern Miss Centennial year.”

The festivities begin Friday night with rehearsal at Pride Field, followed by a social event at the Hattiesburg Country Club. On Saturday, members of the Alumni Band are invited to attend the Homecoming Parade at 10 a.m. in downtown Hattiesburg followed by the College of Arts and Letters and School of Music tailgate and lunch from noon-2 p.m. at Bennett Auditorium lawn. The Golden Eagles take on the Pirates in a 6:30 p.m. kickoff.

John Purser, a 2005 percussion performance alum from New Orleans, has fond memories of his time at Southern Miss and looks forward to Homecoming weekend. “I can't wait to play with the Alumni Band,” said Pursuer. “My time at Southern Miss was a great experience and it is also where I met my wife. She played in the band as well, and will be joining me on the field.

The cost for Alumni Band members is $20 per participant, which includes tickets to the social event and a t-shirt. Guests may attend the social event for $10.
