An 18k white gold and diamond, South Sea pendant/pearl enhancer will be auctioned at “Gold” - The University of Southern Mississippi 2010 Centennial Arts Gala Thursday, Sept. 16 at the Lake Terrace Convention Center.

Davis Wingo of Carroll Jewelry in Hattiesburg donated the piece to show support for the arts in celebration of the 100th anniversary of Southern Miss. The silent auction, presented by the Southern Miss Student Friends of the Arts, is set for 7:30 p.m.

The necklace is perfect for any occasion whether casual or formal, said Stancy Gullung, member of partners and this year's gala chair. “The idea with the gold South Sea pearl and the black cord was to represent Southern Miss,” said Gullung. “You can wear it to USM football games, or switch the cord for a white gold chain for a more formal look.”

The necklace will be encased in a glass dome rotating for all to admire while bids are placed in a locked box for the silent auction. The starting bid is $900 and the highest bid wins the necklace.

Gullung has continued her support of the Arts for many years, noting that life is directly influenced by the Arts. “We listen to music, we appreciate dance, we act in the world and we create art – it is an integral part of our lives and history of the world. Like sports it brings the world together,” she said.
