Economics Expert Siegfried to Hold Seminar on Southern Miss Campus

Dr. John Siegfried, emeritus professor of economics at Vanderbilt University, will be the featured speaker during a seminar on Wednesday, Oct. 20 at the Trent Lott National Center for Excellence in Economic Development and Entrepreneurship (CEEE) at The University of Southern Mississippi.
Sponsored by the Center for Economic and Entrepreneurship Education at Southern Miss, Siegfried's seminar is titled, “Better Living Through Economics.” The program begins at 3 p.m. in the second-floor classroom of the Trent Lott Center.
Siegfried chaired the Economics Department at Vanderbilt from 1980-86 and has served as secretary-treasurer of the American Economic Association since 1997. He has conducted research in industrial organization, antitrust economics, economics of higher education, economics of sports and the teaching of economics.
Siegfried has taught more than 20 different courses at Vanderbilt, including Economics 101, introductory and intermediate microeconomics, industrial organization, antitrust economics, law and economics, a freshmen seminar on thinking strategically and a graduate seminar on how to better teach economics. In 1975 he initiated a course on the economics of sports that is still taught today. He revitalized the Economics Honors Program in 1990 and subsequently directed it for 15 years.
