Freshman Move-In Days Aug. 13-14; Golden Eagle Welcome Weekend Set

Universityof Southern Mississippi faculty, staff, administrators and current students will welcome freshmen and transfers to their new home during Freshman Move-In Days and Golden Eagle Welcome Weekend (GEWW) as the university begins a new academic year.
On Friday, Aug. 13, freshmen who are Luckyday and Leadership Scholars, along with new Honors College students, will move into the much-anticipated Century Park residential complex, located on West Fourth Street.
The 864-bed living-learning community consists of four, four-story buildings and is designed to be one of the most environmentally-friendly structures of its kind in the state.
“We're looking forward to welcoming these students and excited about providing them with a state-of-the-art facility to call home,” said Dr. Chris Crenshaw, director of the Department of Residence Life.
The move-in schedule for freshmen is as follows:
- Friday, Aug. 13: Luckyday and Leadership Scholars and Honors College freshmen move in to Century Park buildings 1 and 3 from 8-10 a.m.; and building 2 from 10 a.m. – noon; others will move into Hickman Hall.
- Saturday, Aug. 14: Freshmen move in to Wilber, Roberts, Pulley and Jones residence halls between 8 a.m. and 2 p.m.
GEWW offers a chance for new students to become acclimated to life at Southern Miss and get to know their classmates through a variety of activities and events before classes start, including the popular Painting of the Eagle Walk, Friday Night at the Fountain, a welcome from Southern Miss Head Football Coach Larry Fedora and other recreational events.
GEWW also includes educational programming to help students deal with issues related to campus safety, relationships and making wise choices.
TheOffice of Student Activities, along with the Department of Residence Life and University Police Department are coordinating Freshmen Move-In, while the Office of the First Year Experience coordinates Golden Eagle Welcome Weekend.
