Hernandez Receives Officer Commission through Army ROTC

Lainy Hernandez of Gautier, Miss. recently received a second lieutenant commission into the U.S. Army after completing the Army Reserve Officer Training Corps (ROTC) program at The University of Southern Mississippi. ROTC helps train college students to become an officer in a branch of the U.S. military.

Hernandez received her undergraduate degree in sport coaching education from Southern Miss, and completed her officer basic course in Fort Sam Houston, Texas. She is the daughter of Elbert Ortiz and Isabel Rodriguez and her first assignment with the U.S. Army is with the 946th Medical (Surgical) Team in Mobile, Ala.
