Industry Day Provides Platform for Sports Security Professionals Across Country

Sports security professionals will have an opportunity to share ideas and discuss best-practice strategies as part of an Industry Day set for Jan. 19 at the SAIC McLean Conference Center in McLean, Virginia.

The National Center for Spectator Sports Safety and Security (NCS⁴) at The University of Southern Mississippi is hosting the Industry Day event which serves as a conference for senior security personnel, venue operations staff, sports domain subject matter experts and solution manufacturers and designers to openly communicate and share information regarding current and future operational needs.

“Growth in spectator sport attendance along with the increasing popularity of pre-game activities, such as tailgating, has led to the development of large crowds rushing to enter venue portals in the few minutes prior to event starting times,” said Steve Miller, director, systems integration at NCS⁴. “This Industry Day will serve as a forum for end users and solutions providers to hear from experts in the topic area and learn about measures currently being taken to address these issues.”

Miller notes that an open forum in the afternoon will also serve to facilitate discussion about venue problems and potential current and future remedies offered by the attending manufacturers and designers.

Some of the solutions being targeted include portable screening products, portal buffering products, gate/barrier products, surveillance and detection products and any other crowd management devices (portable or permanent) that may be applicable. Additionally, any green/sustainable practices that might be incorporated into these concepts are welcome.
