International Education Week Activities Scheduled at Southern Miss

Want to know how to say ‘Happy Birthday USM – 100 Years!” in a different language? Then join The University of Southern Mississippi as it celebrates International Education Week Thursday, Nov. 18 on the Hattiesburg campus.

Members of the campus and area communities can gain greater insights into the cultures, history, language and food of the world through the activities scheduled on this day. International students attending Southern Miss will be on hand to share information about their home countries, a delicious lunch of international cuisine will be served, and a fun “Global IQ test” and live entertainment are included in the day's events.

The day's schedule is as follows:

10 a.m. – 3 p.m., Thad Cochran Center atrium:

  • "Cultural Perspectives" student photo contest
  • “Test your global I.Q.”
  • International student display boards
  • "Happy birthday USM! 100 years" translations

11 a.m. – 2 p.m., Fresh Food Company (located on the first floor of Thad Cochran Center):

  • International Variety Show
  • Live music and entertainment
  • International cuisine

4 p.m. in the Liberal Arts Building, room 110:

·         A viewing of "El secreto de sus ojos" (The Secret of Her Eyes), an Academy Award-winning film from Argentina – subtitled.

International Education Week is a joint initiative of the U.S. Departments of State and Education, designed to celebrate international culture on university and college campuses worldwide.
