Sheffer Named Co-Chair of Research Committee

Dr. Mary Lou Sheffer, assistant professor in The University of Southern Mississippi's School of Mass Communication and Journalism, was recently chosen co-research chair for the newly organized Sports Media Division of the Association for Education in Journalism and Mass Communication (AEJMC).

The AEJMC Sports Media Division will focus its research on sports with a clear media dimension. In her selection for the post, Sheffer was cited as a preeminent scholar in social media and sports journalism.

Sheffer joined the Southern Miss faculty in 2008 and serves as the school's broadcast journalism sequence head. She has more than 10 years experience in broadcasting,and her research areas includes sports media, media management and the influence of new technologies on established news mediums.
