Southern Miss Political Experts Available to Discuss Mid-Term Elections

Millions of Americans will go to the polls on Tuesday, Nov. 2 to vote in the 2010 congressional mid-term elections.

And just like many of you, our political experts on campus will be watching the results closely. For media outlets seeking any type of analysis or discussion about national or state races, the Office of University Communications has lined up a group of professors to field such inquiries.

Those include the following:

Dr. Allan McBride – associate professor and chair of the Department of Political Science, International Development & Affairs. McBride's areas of emphasis include, political socialization, advertising in politics, parties and pressure groups, research methods and statistics.

Dr. Troy Gibson – assistant professor in the Department of Political Science, International Development & Affairs. Gibson's areas of emphasis include religion and politics, interest groups, American politics and politics in general.

Dr. Marija Bekafigo – assistant professor in the Department of Political Science, International Development & Affairs. Bekafigo's areas of emphasis include the U.S. Congress, state party organizations, the U.S. presidency and election research methods.
Dr. Mark Wrighton – associate professor in the Department of Political Science, International Development & Affairs. Also assistant dean in the College of Arts and Letters, Gulf Coast campus. Wrighton's areas of emphasis include third party voting, uncontested seats and electoral competition, campaign and political marketing.
