Amite County Students Selected as Southern Style Leaders at Southern Miss

Two University of Southern Mississippi students from the Amite County area have been selected as members of Southern Style for 2011.

The students are as follows:

Liberty

  • Shawn Blanchard, a junior exercise physiology major, is the son of Kenneth and Angie Blanchard. He is a member of Sigma Chi fraternity, Campus Crusades for Christ and serves as Freshman Associates Advisor.

Summit

  • Makita Bueto, a senior elementary education major, is the daughter of Billy Bueto of McComb and Dan and Nell Hux of Summit. She is a member of the Southern Miss Activities Council and The Point.

Southern Style is a highly selective group of student leaders who serve as official hosts and hostesses for Southern Miss. Students are chosen each year through a three-phase selection process. One of the main responsibilities of Southern Style members is to serve as orientation leaders during the summer.

Southern Style members have the opportunity to meet all new students and their parents through numerous orientation sessions. Other Southern Style responsibilities include assisting during Founders Day, Golden Eagle Welcome Week and all commencement ceremonies. Additionally, they attend recruitment functions and serve as support staff for the First Year Experience office.
