The University of Southern Mississippi's annual Blackout Game is Saturday, Oct. 1 when the Golden Eagles football team takes on Conference USA rival Rice University. All fans are encouraged to wear black to the game and blackout T-shirts can be purchased at Barnes and Noble on the Southern Miss campus.

Tailgating will be held throughout the day on campus. Eagle Walk is at 4:30 p.m. and kickoff for the game at M.M. Roberts Stadium (“The Rock”) is at 6:30 p.m.

On Friday, Sept. 30, Friday Night at the Fountain will be held on Centennial Lawn, starting off with a great meal served by Eagle Dining at 6 p.m. and followed by the Hunter Lawley Band at 7 p.m.

The Hunter Lawley Band has wowed audiences all over the Southeast, opening for acts such as Cross Canadian Ragweed, Tony Joe White, BlackBerry Smoke and Eric Church. His original music counts inspiration from Johnny Cash and Willie Nelson, and his comedic songs are also fan favorites.

The night concludes with a pep rally starting at 9 p.m. The Dixie Darlings and cheerleaders will perform along with the Pride of Mississippi Marching Band. Southern Miss coaches and athletes, including the women's soccer and volleyball teams, will also be on hand for the pep rally.
