The Gulf Coast Library at The University of Southern Mississippi will host a book talk and book signing with Betty Hancock Shaw, author of “Images of America: Gulfport,” on Wednesday, July 27, at 10 a.m. in room 204 of the library on the university's Gulf Park campus in Long Beach.

The book, featuring photographs never before published from private collections, celebrates the history of the city of Gulfport. From images representing architectural history to photographs illustrating the construction of the seawall, the images and captions presented in the book appeal to both historical researchers and casual readers.

During the book talk, Shaw will discuss the history of Gulfport and the importance of preserving history. Following the discussion, Shaw will sign copies of her book. “Images of America: Gulfport” will be available for purchase at the event and light refreshments will be served.
