College of Arts & Letters to Present Research Awards Showcase on Sept. 1

Distinguished faculty within the College of Arts & Letters at The University of Southern Mississippi will be recognized during the first Research Awards Showcase set for 3:30 p.m. Thursday, Sept. 1 at Gonzalez Auditorium in the Liberal Arts Building.

The showcase is designed to honor recipients of the 2011 College of Arts & Letters Scholarly and Creative Research grant. Besides publicizing notable faculty research, the program also will include discussion about opportunities for research funding and development.

“Winning one of these competitive grants is a special honor for faculty because the proposals are selected by a committee of their faculty peers and then recommended to the dean for funding,” said Dr. Douglas Rust, assistant professor of music at Southern Miss and a member of the research awards committee.

Twenty faculty members from within the College of Arts & Letters (Hattiesburg and Gulf Coast campuses) will be honored during the event. Those include the following:
