Eagle Dining and Southern Miss Activities Council Hosts Free Cooking Classes

Wed, 09/28/2011 - 11:00am

Eagle Dining, through a partnership with the Southern Miss Activities Council (SMAC), will offer the university community free cooking classes for the 2011 fall semester.

The cooking classes are presented in a fun and informative format, and feature delicious meals taught by Eagle Dining culinarians. Two classes are scheduled during the fall semester – from 9-11 p.m. -- at the Fresh Food Company in the Thad Cochran Center and will include: Mother Sauces on Oct. 26 and Sushi making on Nov. 30.

Each class is limited to 50 participants and is offered at no charge. Faculty, staff and students can register via the online form located at www.eagledining.com.

Once participants register, they are required to check in at the Fresh Food Company at 8:45 p.m. on the day of the class. To ensure safety in the kitchen during the classes, participants must have closed-toe, rubber sole shoes; t-shirt; hair restraints; and pants.  Eagle Dining will provide ingredients, cookware, utensils and aprons.

The first class, Mother Sauces, will feature the five basic sauces to make dishes such as brown gravy, Alfredo, macaroni and cheese, and spaghetti sauce. In the Sushi class, students will learn how to prepare and roll sushi at home.
