Southern Miss Head Football Coach Larry Fedora talks to incoming transfer students about the upcoming football season Sunday at “The Rock,” M.M. Roberts Football Stadium, during a rally scheduled as part of Golden Eagle Welcome Week (GEWW). The Golden Eagles football team kicks off the 2011 campaign at home Sept. 3 at 9 p.m. against Louisiana Tech University.

University of Southern Mississippi freshmen and transfer students participated in a popular Hattiesburg campus tradition, Paint the Eagle Walk, on Sunday, Aug. 21 under the east side of M.M. Roberts football stadium.

The incoming students split into teams while painting sections of the street surface under the east stand of the stadium, using roller brushes or even their own bodies to coat the surface with gold paint. Paint the Eagle Walk is one of the highlights of Golden Eagle Welcome Week (GEWW) as incoming freshmen and transfer students prepare for the fall semester by getting to know their classmates, faculty and staff and administrators through a variety of educational and recreational activities.
