Friends of Southern Miss Libraries to Host Discussion and Book Signing April 11

Tue, 04/05/2011 - 08:26am

The Friends of Southern Miss University Libraries welcome author and Laurel, Miss. native Hunter Cole for a discussion and signing of his book, The Legs Murder Scandal, on Monday, April 11 at 6 p.m. in room 123 of Cook Library on The University of Southern Mississippi Hattiesburg campus.

In 1935, Ouida Keeton was arrested in Laurel and charged with murdering her mother, Daisy.  At the time, the murder of Daisy Keeton was described as one of the most lurid crimes in the nation.  Because of the sensationalism of the crime, Ouida became known as “Mississippi's Lizzie Borden.”  Through his research, Cole examines the two separate trials of Ouida Keeton and her lover, W.M. Carter, while presenting new facts and challenging existing beliefs about the incident.

The Friends of University Libraries group was started in 2010 as an organization to bolster community support of University Libraries. For information on becoming a Friend of University Libraries or the Hunter Cole event, call 601.266.4241.
