Important Message from the Southern Miss Office of Disability Accomodations

Fri, 02/18/2011 - 04:42pm

In helping make The University of Southern Mississippi a welcoming environment for persons with disabilities, the Southern Miss Office of Disability Accommodations (ODA) reminds students, faculty, staff and visitors to avoid blocking the use of campus features that create access for persons with disability.

Problems arise when the following accessible features are impeded by bikes, golf carts, trucks, other vehicles or objects:

·         Handicap parking spaces and their adjacent access spaces that are typically painted in blue and are marked by blue and white handicap parking signs

·         Ramps and railings

·         Sidewalks and internal walkways

·         Curb cuts on sidewalks, typically located near handicap parking, crosswalks and at street intersections

·         Electronic buttons, switches or other devices that are used to access entrances such as power doors or elevators

To report vehicles, bikes or objects blocking any accessible features on campus, please call the University Police at 601.266.4986; the University Safety Department at 601.266.4850; Department of Parking Management at 601.266.5447; or ODA at 601.266.5024. At Southern Miss Gulf Coast, call 228-214-3430.
