King Receives Award at National Communication Centers Conference

Michael King of Clear Lake, S.D., a doctoral student in The University of Southern Mississippi Department of Communication Studies, received the Outstanding Tutor Award at the National Association of Communication Centers conference, held March 18-19 in Richmond, Va. King serves as a tutor for the Southern Miss Speaking Center.

King was nominated for the award by Southern Miss Speaking Center Director Wendy Atkins-Sayre and his peers at the Speaking Center. The national award is presented to a tutor who demonstrates excellence, assistance, dedication, knowledge, creativity and additional contributions to communication centers.

This is the second year in a row that one of the Southern Miss Speaking Center tutors has won the national award for outstanding tutors, given to only one student in the nation annually.

Located on the first floor of Cook Library, the Sothern Miss Speaking Center is a key component of the university's quality enhancement plan.
