Madison Student Recognized at Southern Miss Graduate Symposium

William Thompson of Madison, Miss., was recently recognized at the 2011 Graduate Student Research Symposium at The University of Southern Mississippi.

Thompson, a coastal sciences major and masters student, is the son of Kevin and Tracey Thompson. He is a representative of the Graduate Student Senate and a member of the Marine and Estuarine Graduate Student Association.

Thompson's work, “A Novel Snp Genotyping Assay for Detection and Quantitation of Taura Syndrome Virus Variants in Coinfected Shrimp Host Using Real Time Pcr”, was selected by the Graduate Senate and Dean of the College of Graduate Studies as the top paper in his department. Winners receive recognition and a monetary award.

The symposium took place on March 18, 2011 and provided graduate students an opportunity to present their research to faculty, staff, students and members of the broader university community. This symposium is designed to enhance the scholarly environment for graduate students and to highlight the quality, innovative, and diverse scholarship of Southern Miss graduate students.
