New Orleans Area Students Selected for Whos Who at Southern Miss

Six students from the New Orleans area have been named to 2010-11 Who's Who in American Colleges and Universities at The University of Southern Mississippi.

The students are as follows:

Mandeville

  • Samantha Schott, a news-editorial journalism major, is the daughter of Christopher and Judy Schott. She is a member of Kappa Tau Alpha Mass Communication and Journalism Honor Society, the Catholic Student Association, Eagle Connection, Delta Gamma Sorority, and Golden Key Honor Society.

Metairie

  • Lauren Bordes, an elementary education major, is the daughter of Robert Bordes and Sonia Bordes. She is a member of the Student Government Association, the Catholic Student Association, Phi Mu Sorority, Gamma Beta Phi Honor Society, Phi Delta Kappa Association, The Legacyand  Order of Omega Greek Honor Society. Among her campus activities she has also served as president of Phi Mu Sorority and vice president of Order of Omega.

New Orleans

  • Brett Haro, a business administration major, is the son of Jeffery and Mary Beth Haro. He is a member of Pi Kappa Phi Fraternity, the Student Government Association, Order of Omega Honor Society, Golden Eagle Welcome Week crew, Southern Style, Catholic Student Association and Southern Miss Creed Team. Among his campus activities he has also served as recruitment chair and vice president for Pi Kappa Phi Fraternity and treasurer for the Student Government Association.

River Ridge

  • Maley Morris, a speech pathology major, is the daughter of William and Evanne Morris. She is a member of Phi Mu Sorority, Lambda Sigma Honor Society, the Student Government Association, Golden Eagle Welcome Week crew and Southern Style. 
  • Maria Morris, a communication studies major, is the daughter of William and Evanne Morris. She is a member of Phi Mu Sorority, the Student Government Association, the Student Leadership Circle, Order of Omega, Greek Seekers, Lambda Sigma Honor Society and Golden Eagle Welcome Week crew.

Slidell

  • Meryl Dakin, an English major, is the daughter of Peter and Kathryn Dakin. She is a member of the Southern Miss Repertory Dance Company, Sigma Tau Delta Honor Society and Golden Key Honor Society.

There were 40 students at Southern Miss selected for this prestige award.  Who's Who Among American Colleges and Universities is the highest award the academic community bestows. Students are chosen based on the following criteria: grade point average, community involvement, future leadership ability and/or potential and participation and leadership within school organizations and extracurricular activities.
