Thu, 05/12/2011 - 04:32pm | By: David Tisdale

A basic preservation workshop for books and archival material for small to mid-size organizations with historical materials will be held at The University of Southern Mississippi's Cook Library June 10 from 9:30 a.m. - 3 p.m.  in room 205.

The workshop will be taught by Jennifer Brannock, special collections librarian with McCain Library and Archives. It will provide attendees basic instruction on environmental conditions and the preservation of books and archival materials (paper, photographs, etc.) and the opportunity to learn about the basics of preserving library collections and personal materials. Workshop participants are encouraged to bring examples and questions about issues impacting their collections for discussion.

Advance registration is required and the fee is $20; checks may be made payable to the Society of Mississippi Archivists. Space is limited and the registration deadline is May 31; there will be no on-site registration.

The workshop is sponsored by the Society of Mississippi Archivists and the
Archival Training Collaborative, a grant project designed to establish a sustainable program of affordable archival training opportunities for staff and volunteers in historical repositories in Louisiana, Mississippi, and Alabama, which is funded by the Institute for Museum and Library Services.
