As part of an ongoing effort to prepare graduates for the business world, Career Services at The University of Southern Mississippi used its annual Spring Etiquette Dinner as a platform for polishing students' employability.

According to surveys, employers cite professional etiquette as one of the top three skills college graduates lack. Certified etiquette consultant Linda Montgomery, from the prestigious Protocol School of Washington, led the students in formal dinner etiquette training over a four-course meal at the Thad Cochran Center.

“These etiquette dinners provide students with an opportunity to learn how to conduct themselves in a professional business environment,” said Career Services Director Rusty Anderson. “Events like this dinner will equip them with important skills that could help them stand out in the eyes of potential employers.”

“We like to create an environment where students can engage in learning the fundamentals of dining etiquette and still be at ease in a formal setting,” said Arthur Lumzy, manager of career counseling at Career Services.

The dinner was sponsored by Northrop Grumman Corporation, a leading global security company that provides innovative systems, products, and solutions in aerospace, electronics, information systems, shipbuilding and technical services to government and commercial customers worldwide.
