Southern Miss Football Game Still On; Several Pregame/Halftime Festivities Cancelled

The Southern Miss season-opening game versus Louisiana Tech will still be played as scheduled, but some pregame and halftime festivities have been cancelled as a result of potentially hazardous weather conditions related to Tropical Strom Lee.

Kickoff is set for 9 p.m.

The festivities affected include, but may not be limited to:

  • Golden Eagle fans are asked to refrain from tailgating on campus
  • Junior Eagle Funland has been cancelled
  • Eagle Walk has been cancelled
  • The halftime transfer of steel beams from the Twin Towers from the City of Hattiesburg to the University has been postponed.
  • IMG College's Eagle Village has been cancelled

Fans attending the game are also asked to be cautious about the potential for flooding on the Hattiesburg campus.

Locations on the Hattiesburg campus that are prone to flooding andcould result in damage to vehicles parked in these areas include the following:

  • 31st and Pearl in the area of 108 North 31st Avenue
  • 31st and Southern Miss at Arthell Kelly Hall, behind the Junior Food Mart
  • 30th and Southern Miss at Arthell Kelly Hall, behind the Junior Food Mart
  • Eagle Walk and Black and Gold Drive at the football practice field
  • Eagle Walk and north side of M.M. Roberts Stadium
  • Golden Eagle Drive at the raised cross walk
  • Kay James Drive at the DuBard School
  • Fraternity Drive at Montague Street
  • Pinehaven Circle at Delta Gamma house

Eagle Club members with reserved parking in those areas will have the option be re-routed to the nearest available parking.
