The library at The University of Southern Mississippi Gulf Park campus in Long Beach will host a book talk and brown bag lunch featuring author Gail C. Fusco to discuss and sign her book Mama Nettie's Time to Love. The event will take place Wednesday, Feb. 23 at noon in room 204 of the library.

Fusco's inspirational book tells the story of her maternal grandmother, Arnette “Nettie” Peters Giles of Pearlington, Miss. After being abandoned by her mother, Mama Nettie vowed that no child around her would ever be abused or mistreated. She and her husband had four children of their own, but went on to raise 42 more that had been given up or abandoned by their parents.

In 1971, Mama Nettie's lifetime of service to needy children made headlines across the country when President Richard Nixon presented her with the first National Volunteer Award.

Audience members should bring a lunch, and the library staff will provide refreshments. Following the lively book talk, the author will sign copies of her book. For more information, contact Pat Rodgers at 228.214.3460.
