Southern Miss – To the Top – indeed.

The three major awards presented annually to the most outstanding collegiate male athletes in the State of Mississippi are currently held by University of Southern Mississippi Golden Eagles.

On Tuesday night, senior quarterback Austin Davis took home the Conerly Trophy given to the state's top football player during ceremonies held at the Mississippi Sports Hall of Fame in Jackson. Davis joins former baseball star Tyler Koelling, who captured the Ferriss Trophy this past spring and former basketball standout Gary Flowers, who won the Howell Trophy in 2010-11 as award recipients.

“We truly congratulate our three student-athletes for leading the first collegiate athletic program in history to receive all three male players of the year awards given by the Mississippi Sports Hall of Fame in one year,” said Richard Giannini, Southern Miss director of athletics. “We are very proud of the accomplishments of Austin, Gary and Tyler and their coaches for putting Southern Miss Athletics at the forefront of the collegiate programs in Mississippi.”

Davis has led Southern Miss to a 10-2 regular-season record heading into Saturday's Conference USA championship game against the Houston Cougars. A Meridian, Miss., native Davis holds school passing records in yardage (10,448), touchdown passes (77), completions (898), attempts (1,453) and total offense (11,756.)
