Southern Miss to host Community Forum on Economic Security March 4

A community forum focusing on economic security will be held Friday, March 4 from noon – 2 p.m. at The University of Southern Mississippi's Trent Lott National Center for Excellence in Economic Development and Entrepreneurship.
The Trent Lott Center, along with the Kettering Foundation National Issues Forums (NIF) and the Southern Rural Development Center at Mississippi State University are sponsoring this event, one of many of its kind being held across the country titled “Economic Security: How Should We Take Charge of Our Future?”
The purpose of the forums is to promote a national discussion on economic security with national, state and local implications, and gain insight from the public on ways the U.S. can move in a positive direction economically.
“We're pleased to host this event,” said Dr. Chad Miller, assistant professor of economic development at Southern Miss and coordinator for the event. “It's an exciting opportunity to be part of a national discussion on the economic direction of the nation.”
Organizers hope to facilitate and encourage a conversation with Pine Belt residents on how they and other citizens across the state and nation can best take charge of their economic future, and in doing so establish a financially stable retirement and help their children prosper.
The moderated forum will allow participants to discuss economic opportunities and ways to strengthen our communities and small businesses.
“These forums are being held all across the U.S., from Oregon to Florida, in most of the 50 states,” said Larkin Dudley, southeastern coordinator for the Kettering Foundation. “The insights from these deliberations will be shared with national leaders in Washington, D.C. in May.”
