Southern Miss McCay Elected to Leadership Post with NACURH

Stephen McCay of Gulfport, Miss., a graduate student in political science at The University of Southern Mississippi, was elected National Associate for Finance of the National Association of College & University Residence Halls, Inc. (NACURH) at the organization's annual conference in May.

McCay, a Luckyday Citizenship Scholar as an undergraduate at Southern Miss, is the first person ever from the university to be elected to an office with NACURH, the largest student-run organization in the world. McCay's position is the equivalent of chief financial officer (CFO) for the NACURH.

To qualify for the post, candidates must be a student in good academic standing and have support from their host institution's housing program. They then must submit a bid for the position and then make a presentation before the organization's national board of directors prior to the election of officers.

The son of John M. McCay Jr. and Barbara R. McCay, Stephen McCay has also been active in the Southern Miss campus community, including as a member of the university's political science honorary fraternity, Pi Sigma Alpha; as a leader in multiple university organizations, including stints as Student Government Association (SGA) senator representing the College of Arts and Letters and as an SGA Graduate Student Senator and a Campus At-Large Senator; and in leadership positions with the Residence Hall Association (RHA) as well as the Southern Miss chapter of Rho Eta Alpha (National Residence Hall Honorary fraternity), for which he served as vice president.
