Southern Miss Sends Presenters to National Entrepreneurship Conference

The University of Southern Mississippi Center for Economic and Entrepreneurship Education (CEEE) and Department of Economic and Workforce Development sent two representatives as presenters at the National Association for Community College Entrepreneurship (NACCE) 9^th Annual Conference held Oct. 9-11 in Portland, Oregon.

The conference, entitled “The Impact of Entrepreneurship,” was co-sponsored by NACCE and association partners including the Ewing Marion Kauffman Foundation; The Coleman Foundation; Barnes & Noble, Inc.; Cengage Learning; and Pearson Education, Inc.

James Wilcox, Director of the CEEE, and Dr. Brent Hales, associate professor and interim-chair of the Southern Miss Department of Economic and Workforce Development, presented a study titled, “Developing Local Entrepreneurial Community Coalitions” to an assembly of community college educators, support staff, and entrepreneurialism advocates. 

The study and associated presentation were based on Hales' work with community coalition development and asset mapping within the Economic Development community and Wilcox' endeavors with the Southern Entrepreneurship Program -- a hands-on educational program based out of the CEEE and developed to provide real-world business development training to middle and high school students.
