Southern Miss Senior Receives Presser Foundation Award

Ana Cristina Abrantes, a music performance major at The University of Southern Mississippi, has received the annual Presser Award, presented by the Presser Foundation of Haverford, Penn.

The cash stipend is given to promising senior student of music in accredited collegiate music programs. A cellist, Abrantes performs with the Meridian (Miss.) Symphony, the Mississippi Symphony Orchestra and was invited to perform a solo recital during this year's FestivalSouth in Hattiesburg.

The Sao Paulo, Brazil native has been teaching with the Suzuki Strings program since 2009 and is a member of the Temple Baptist Church Orchestra. Abrantes also works as a librarian for the Southern Miss Symphony Orchestra which involves ordering and maintaining musical scores for the entire orchestra.
