Southern Miss Student Wins First Place at Minority Business Program

University of Southern Mississippi senior Miranda Minor of Columbus, Miss., captured first place honors for her business launch plan at the 2011 Emerging Minority Business Leaders (EMBL) program held at West Liberty University in Wheeling, W.V.

Minor's team wrote a launch plan for a new type of protective wear that can be worn by nurses to prevent finger pricks when using needles to administer medication. Her team consisted of fellow EMBL participants from across the country.

The purpose of the two-week program is to provide entrepreneurship, technology management and commercialization training to high-performing students from the U.S. and other countries.

Minor is majoring in business administration with a concentration in human resources. Other Southern Miss students who participated in the EMBL program this year include Shenique Russ, a senior business administration major; Adriana Veals, a senior finance/accounting major and Brian Hughes, a senior interdisciplinary studies major.
