'Affordable Care Act' to be Focus of Second Health Forum on March 22

The University of Southern Mississippi College of Health will host the second in a series of forums entitled, “The Affordable Care Act: A Compacted Review and the Legalities of Its Survival,” from 6 p.m.-7:45p.m. on Thursday, March 22nd in the Thad Cochran Center, Ballroom I. 

The forum will take attendees through a brief summation of the Affordable Care Act, as well as discuss the legal issues surrounding it and the possible outcomes from the Supreme Court hearings later this month. The program will be directed by leading health care attorney, Dinetia M. Newman, a partner with Bradley Arant Boult Cummings in Jackson, Miss.

Ryan Kelly, College of Health director of external relations states, “We expect that this forum will be the largest of the year, with a wide-spread attendance from interested parties throughout the community,” said Ryan Kelly, director of external relations in the College of Health. “Health care reform is still a very hot topic in the profession, and it is something that will affect the lives of every American citizen. 

“This forum should help to provide clarity with regard to the recently passed health care legislation, as well as the current arguments against it.”

Refreshments will be provided, and there is no charge for attendance. Applications for continuing education units for nursing and community health (CHES) have been submitted.  Admission is free and open to the public. Refreshments will be served.
